What REO SPEEDWAGON means to me
People ask me who is REO Speedwagon and why do I like them.
As most of you who are reading this already know who REO is, I will explain
why I like them.
First point...The MUSIC
Many people believe REO is a band that was from the 70's. And this is true,
but they are still alive and rockin' just as ever today. When asked, "When
did you become an REO Fan?" my reply is always "Ever since I could
say the letters R E O." But the truth really is, I became a loyal fan
when I first heard "Can't Fight This Feeling". So by REO fans standards...guess
I'm a late bloomer. Of course I had heard much of their stuff previous to
this, but I just didn't get into them until this late date of 1985. You know
I guess it isn't so bad to be a late bloomer in this case because I enjoy
their later works that much easier. Most REO fans are loyal to the "original"
members and shun the new material. But I'm a ballad lover as you can tell
if "Can't Fight This Feeling" is what hooked me. And it is these
works that really move me. "Here With Me", "In My Dreams",
"Love In The Future" and "Just For You"...just to name
a few. I can't help but sigh in complacency when "Can't Fight This Feeling"
comes on the radio (which here in Los Angeles is pretty rare to hear any REO.)
Their album "Earth, A Small Man, His Dog and A Chicken" was not
considered a success, but yet it is one of my favorite albums. It is a good
mix of ballads and rock.
Second point...The BAND
Most rock stars are untouchable. I mean most them you never get to meet in
person in your lifetime. Not the case with these guys. I have had the great
pleasure of meeting these guys on a few occasions. They are so down to earth
and very approachable. Even while being starstruck, they are the ones that
make the effort to come talk to you. Extremely sweet guys who embrace their
fans and just an overall class act.
I can't really say who my favorite band member is because I like each of them
for their individual personalities. And besides they wouldn't be REO without
all of them!!!
Third Point...The PEOPLE
REO fans are most unique. They are individuals with many different likes and
dislikes but yet we all have this common bond that really brings us together
on the same wavelength. Even though we are many miles apart it is always REO
that brings us together...mentally and sometimes physically. We have been
known to party at the same time in cities across the country and in many times
the same city! That's right, many of us travel to distant places just to see
our fellow fans, or course REO again is the contributing factor. Being at
the REO Convention in 1998 in Indiana was a unique experience.
Because of REO, I have made friendships that will last a lifetime. To my friends
out there in cyberland (you know who you are)...I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!
And if you read my adoption story you know REO's hand in that as well...it has forever changed my life and I can't thank you guys enough for that.
In general this sums it up...
